SATC/ Port Adelaide Passenger Terminal Wayfinding

Facilitating a positive customer experience for visitors to and from Adelaide.

The South Australian Tourism Commission (SATC) wanted to improve the wayfinding signage for passengers arriving and departing the Port Adelaide Terminal.

Nicknack conducted extensive site visits along with the client’s production partner to ensure a clear understanding of onsite realities, including traffic flows and key access points. The visit also provided clarity around the onsite infrastructure into which elements of signage were to be integrated, as well as the obstacles to passenger lines of sight.

Nicknack developed a wayfinding system consisting of a simple black and white colour scheme with bespoke iconography that easily integrated into various areas within the Port Adelaide Passenger Terminal. Each location was addressed from a distance and up close, so that passengers would be able to easily identify their desired path without requiring staff assistance. Braille components for signs were also given due consideration from the standpoint of disability compliance.

The final suite was comprised of the following signs:

• Floor graphics

• Door signs for male/ female toilets and parent rooms

• Elevated signs for toilets etc for viewing from a distance

• Overhead lightbox signs

• Standalone plinths

• Cantilevered signs
